\u00a0Frances Epps, <a href=\"http:\/\/charlottemason.redeemer.ca\/ParentsReview\/ParentsReviewV1\/PDFs\/n4\/p269-273PRv1n4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nursery French, Parents&#8217; Review 1890<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Suggested Games for Any Language<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Adapted from Frances Epps&#8217;\u00a0<em>Nursery French&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Singing Games<\/strong>-though Epps speaks specifically about French nursery songs, the idea she suggests can be implemented in any language. \u00a0Mason included &#8220;singing games&#8221; in Form 1. \u00a0Find songs in your target language which lend themselves to movement and gestures coinciding with the words of the songs. \u00a0<em>&#8220;The children will, naturally, learn the words slowly and carefully, with their meaning, as well as the actions and the music.&#8221; (Epps, Frances. \u00a0Nursery French. \u00a0The Parents&#8217; Review, 1890.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong>Talking Games<\/strong>-though Mason herself does not mention &#8220;talking games&#8221; in her programmes, I can imagine these being used during free afternoons, evenings and weekends during the first few years of study.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>&#8220;I Have a Basket&#8221;<\/em>-the teacher has a basket (box, bag, jar etc) and states &#8220;I have a basket.&#8221; \u00a0The teacher then asks the students, &#8220;What do you put in it?&#8221; \u00a0Each student has a turn with the basket, first stating &#8220;I have a basket.&#8221; \u00a0The teacher or other students ask, &#8220;What do you put in it?&#8221; \u00a0The student states what they put in the basket&#8230;&#8221;I put eggs in it.&#8221; \u00a0The student passes the basket to the next student (or teacher and student take turns).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>BINGO-<\/em>(requires teacher prep) students have counters and cards with pictures on them of the vocabulary words they have learned. \u00a0The teacher (or student) calls out vocabulary words and the students must say in their target language &#8220;I have a &#8212;!&#8221; \u00a0The first student to cover their card wins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><em>Counting Games<\/em>-many games can be played with numbers and vocabulary words.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">Using pencils, crayons, buttons, beans, etc., students have a number of them set in front of them. \u00a0Student #1 asks Student #2 (or the teacher) &#8220;How many &#8212; do you have?&#8221; \u00a0If Student #2 answers correctly, &#8220;I have &#8212; &#8212;&#8211;,&#8221; they have a turn asking the next student.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\">&#8220;BUZ&#8221;-at the beginning of the game, a number is chosen. \u00a0For example, 8. \u00a0The students begin counting and whenever that number comes up, they must say &#8220;buz&#8221;
