A Scope & Sequence for Grammar<\/h3>\n

Though I have not seen in Mason’s volumes a specific outline for teaching grammar, we can glean from her programmes the scope & sequence followed.\u00a0 Below is my best representation of the scope & sequence we may follow when teaching grammar in our chosen language.\u00a0 (I am not sure if this S & S will apply directly in languages such as Mandarin, Japanese and Korean)\u00a0 Keep in mind these lessons are not usually begun until\u00a0Form 2.\u00a0 In my home, I found success beginning French grammar mid-way through our Form 2B year.\u00a0 You can listen to a Form 2 Immersion lesson I did with A Delectable Education, here<\/a>.\u00a0 This lesson includes ideas for grammar.<\/p>\n

-Definite Articles: the<\/em> cat, the<\/em> school, the<\/em> house, etc.<\/p>\n

Masculine & Feminine<\/p>\n

Singular<\/p>\n

-Indefinite Articles: a<\/em> cat, a<\/em> school, a<\/em> house, etc.<\/p>\n

Masculine & Feminine<\/p>\n

Singular<\/p>\n

-Conjugation of the Present Indicative of the Verb ‘to be.’\u00a0 (Affirmative)<\/p>\n

[In layman’s terms for those like myself: this is present tense of ‘to be,’ in the “positive.”\u00a0 Think, “I am, You are, We are, They are.”]<\/p>\n

\n

-Present Indicative of the Verb ‘to be.’ (Negative, Interrogatively, and Interrogative-Negative)<\/p>\n

[Present tense of ‘to be,’ introducing negative form (I am not, you are not, etc.), questions (are you? am I?) and negative questions (Am I not?\u00a0 Are they not?).]<\/p>\n

\n

-Plural of the Definite Article: the<\/em> cats<\/em>, the<\/em> schools<\/em>, the<\/em> houses<\/em>, etc.<\/p>\n

\n

-Agreement of Adjectives<\/p>\n

The adjectives must agree with the noun, in terms of gender and plural\/singular.\u00a0 The verbs must agree as well.<\/p>\n

For example: <\/em><\/p>\n

Le<\/em> mur est<\/em> grand (The wall is big).\u00a0 Les<\/em> murs<\/strong> sont<\/em> grands<\/strong> (The walls are big).<\/p>\n

La<\/em> porte est<\/em> grande <\/strong>(The door is big).\u00a0 Les<\/em> portes<\/strong> sont<\/em> grandes <\/strong>(The doors are big).<\/p>\n
